Severe Weather Alert
Radio Forecast Network (RFN) currently delivers over 50,000 weather reports per month, with over 100 announcers and meteorologists serving over 230 radio stations in 39 states with recorded-live, MP3 quality weather forecasts, in every daypart, seven days a week. The Company delivers its client radio stations weather feeds specific to their coverage areas, using their call letters, with a custom open & close that can include a sponsor and a jingle, all at 100% barter.
Beginning August 2007, RFN will launch nationally sponsored Severe Weather Alerts at no charge to any and all of the 10,000 radio stations in the USA. Our 230+ current affiliates will be the first to air this new product. We expect another 290 stations to pick up on this new product by 2008-Q2, and run with what is a 60-second report, which includes an upfront plug for the National Sponsor and an outro with local tags. This Special product is designed to compliment a regular spot schedule on Radio Forecast Network.
RFN aims to brand this “Severe Weather Alert” with the National Sponsor’s name. For example, the OnStar Severe Weather Alert or the Michelin Severe Weather Alert.
It would layout like this on-air, in a 60-second format:
This is your On*Star Severe Weather Alert for (Area of Alert) brought to you by On*Star Safety and Security Systems….
AIR ALERT CONTENT
…This (Local Radio Station and imaging line) Severe Weather Alert has been brought to you by On*Star Safety and Security Systems…. Test drive On*Star at you local GMC dealer (insert local GMC On*Star dealer and address).
HOW IT WORKS: Multiple times per day, 365 days per year, our Severe Weather Alerts manager Tony Doherty (a 20-year weather veteran) and his team of meteorologists will scan the nation for all manner of severe weather, including:
· Hurricanes
· Tornadoes & High Winds
· Floods
· Icing
· Winter Storms
· Lightning
· Marine Warnings.
RFN will create four types of Severe Weather Alerts (SWA):
1. SWA “Watches”- covers a large area - an entire state or region.
-
60 seconds. ALL participating stations are provided individual tagouts.
-
Each market will have individual alerts (tagout customized for each station).
-
EXAMPLES: Severe Thunderstorm, Snowstorm or Tornado watch
2. SWA “Warnings” - covers a specific market.
3. Hurricane Advisories
4. National Travel Advisory - All stations have option to use this mini-feature in their morning program.
- 120 seconds (includes baked in national 30-second spot at end of the alert).
- Each station will run a generic N.T.A. for the nation. Our announcers will cut just ONE advisory per day.
For each type of alert, our announcing team will create a crisp 60-second audio clip, including highlighting risks to people and property. Then, participating stations in the affected geography will be alerted of the availability of an MP3 clip for their station via email, fax, cell phone text messaging AND an automated phone call, to one or more of their station employees.
Stations will then download the clip automatically, which will have appended to it the short intro indicated above with their call letters.
Stations can sell the tagouts that can follow the report as relevant (“Your local GM dealer, Johnson GM, can let you test drive the OnStar System at 4321 Johnson Hwy in Johnson.”). This will allow them to ride on the coat tails of the National Sponsor, such that they can generate what are in essence “local sponsor dollars.” Frequency for our national sponsor is assured when the local station ALSO stands to make money every time a severe weather alert runs on their station.
The same RFN web-based program called ManageWx™ that delivers this time-sensitive content will enable the participating stations to easily provide affidavits as to when and how many times the Alert ran.
Based on historical severe weather data, we anticipate the following avails should be generated on a monthly basis from about 500 participating stations:
- Severe weather affecting 10% of the stations per day
- 50 participating stations per day
- Each station will run the Severe Weather Alert 5 times
- 30.4 days in a month.
Thus, total MONTHLY avails (the national “sponsored by” intro and the local tags outro) should be 7,600. And, an accompanying separate spot schedule to run throughout the RFN network can be added on at a sigfnficant discount.
